Fishmetrics team is a multidisciplinary and capable group of engineers, biological scientists, computer vision experts. In 2008 the Fishmetrics solution was awarded one of the BES INNOVATION PRIZES.
Founder - Gui Manuel Machado Menezes holds a PhD in Marine Ecology by the University of the Azores and is Auxiliar Researcher in the same university. Since the 1990s he was/is involved in several international (EU - DGXIV, FAIR, INTERREG, EUROCORES, FP6, FP7, EEA Grants, H2020), national and regional R&D projects mostly related with the biology and ecology of demersal and deep-water fish species, seamount and oceanic islands ecosystems, fisheries, and fisheries sampling programs, as coordinator or team member. He coordinated many longline research cruises off the Azores, Madeira, Cape Verde archipelagos and several Atlantic seamounts. He was involved in the MARECO project, was member of the Steering Committee of the CENSEAM (a CoML projet) and, among others, is currently also coordinating the research project on the Condor seamount observatory, a unique area designated for seamount research. GMMM is author or co-author of more than 40 refereed papers, 6 book chapters, and guest co-editor of two special issues (ICES Journal and the Deep-Sea research II). He frequently advices the Azores government on demersal and deep-water fisheries issues, participated in several ICES WG’s (WGDEEP, WGDEC), and is also member of the OSPAR ICG COBAM expert group on fish and cephalopod.
